In this module, you will be introduced to the interdisciplinary concept of sustainable chemistry and develop a holistic perspective on chemistry across the entire life cycle of chemical products. You will explore how chemistry contributes to sustainable development and how anticipating environmental and societal impacts at the source can help prevent downstream problems.
Course contents
- Foundations of sustainable chemistry
Introduction to sustainable chemistry, its scope, and its role within science and industry. - Chemistry in the context of sustainable development
The significance of chemistry for Sustainable Development and the Agenda 2030. - Green chemistry and sustainable chemistry
Relationship, opportunities, and limitations within a circular economy context. - Life-cycle thinking in chemistry
Importance of considering the full life cycle of chemical products and anticipating impacts at the source. - Function and service of chemical products
Understanding chemical products beyond substances, focusing on their function and service.
Course structure
- Duration: six weeks
- Structure: three learning phases.
- Live sessions: The course includes six live webinars (each approximately 90 minutes), held in the afternoon (usually at 4:00 or 5:00 pm CEST).
