Frequently asked questions
You have questions about modular continuing education in certificate or module studies or via module participation? We have answered frequently asked questions for you on this page. In addition, please feel free to contact us at any time if you have further questions or problems.
The core of the modular continuing education offer consists precisely in putting together one's own curriculum. In doing so, the logic of conventional degree programmes with fixed curricula and courses of study is abandoned. Instead, you can freely combine all subject modules and in this way tailor your studies to your personal competence needs.
Our digital booking portal warns you already during the selection of your modules if there are overlaps in the dates of different courses. This means that you can check which module courses would overlap before making a booking that is subject to payment and can adjust your study planning accordingly.
A module is a teaching-learning unit and comprises at least one course. Modules are the subject-related brackets that structure a complete course of study into units that make sense in terms of content. In the booking portal, you can only book modules, with the exception of an extra course offer and our coaching events. In the booking portal, you will see the same courses with different durations for a module (event period: currently, in future, more). You select the courses that fit best for you in terms of time and then book the module with the right event times for you.
If you want to study the certificate programme Professional School Individuale, you have to enrol (matriculate). The prerequisite for this is that you complete at least 15 credit points, which usually corresponds to three modules (one module = 5 credit points). You will receive a university certificate as your degree. If you choose the certificate participation, you will also earn at least 15 credit points, but will not take any examinations. You will not be a registered student. After completing the continuing education programme, you will receive a certificate. Alternatively, you can attend as many modules as you like in the modular study programme without enrolling, but still take exams. In this case, you will receive a certificate. Module participation is similar to module study without enrolment, but you can focus on the content and competences taught and do not have to take an examination. After completing the module, you will receive a certificate of participation. Should you discover in the course of the module participation that you would like to take an examination after all, you can apply for this at a later date. However, a processing fee of 90 euros will then be added.
This varies due to the large number of subject modules that can be booked. For many modules, participation is possible without any prerequisites, while others require certain prerequisites such as a university entrance qualification, certain language skills or previous professional experience. The entry requirements are stored in the booking portal for the respective modules. If you are unsure, please contact the Coordination for modular continuing education.
You do not need to apply for the Professional School Individuale certificate programme. However, it may be that individual modules selected for the certificate programme have restricted access. If this is the case, you must apply for these modules. This is independent of whether you choose the certificate programme, the modular studies or the module participation.
If you decide to study the certificate programme Professional School Individuale, you will be enrolled (matriculated) after submitting an application via the Student Services. You will then pay a semester fee in addition to the reduced module fee and can access all the university resources available to students as well as take advantage of student discounts. For a certificate programme, you must earn at least 15 credit points, and the standard period of study is two semesters.
